Understanding Your Tirzepatide Prescription: What the Label Means

Your prescription label tells you the dose, how much to inject, and when to step up.

Reading a tirzepatide prescription label

Your tirzepatide prescription label shows the dose, concentration, and how much to inject each week. Here is how to read it so you know exactly what you are taking.

Is this you?

Is this you?

If you nodded at two or three of those, keep reading.

What the label says

Your vial label shows the medication name, the concentration, the dose, and the volume to inject. The concentration is how many milligrams per milliliter. The dose is how many milligrams you inject. The volume is how many milliliters of the vial you draw up.

Most people start at 2.5 mg once a week. Your label might say "Tirzepatide 2.5 mg/0.5 mL" which means you draw up 0.5 mL from the vial to get your 2.5 mg dose. Some concentrations are different, so your volume might be more or less to get the same dose. The dose is what matters, not the volume.

When to step up

Your provider starts you low and steps you up every four weeks. That is how most people stay comfortable. The usual ladder is 2.5 mg for four weeks, then 5 mg, then 7.5 mg, then 10 mg, then 12.5 mg, then 15 mg if needed. Your provider tells you when to move up. If you feel fine, you step up. If you are having a rough week, you stay put and step up next month.

How to inject

Inject into your belly, thigh, or upper arm once a week on the same day. Pick a day that fits your schedule, mark it on your phone, and stick to it. If you miss a dose by a day or two, take it as soon as you remember. If it has been more than three days, skip it and take your next dose on schedule.

The real thing vs the rest

Gummies and GLP-1 pills are not the same thing

Gummies and liposomal drops were never in the clinical trials. Swallow it and about 1% reaches your blood. Inject it and about 80% does. Injectable tirzepatide posted about 20% average body weight loss in clinical trials. A gummy cannot touch that.

The real thing vs the rest

A gummy cannot do this. Not even close.

Weight loss gummies, so called GLP-1 pills and liposomal drops sold on social media were never in the clinical trials. Injectable tirzepatide and semaglutide were. Overseas research-only vials have no pharmacy and no physician behind them.

FAQ

FAQ

What if my vial concentration is different?+

Your dose stays the same, the volume changes. A 10 mg/mL concentration means 0.25 mL gives you 2.5 mg. A 5 mg/mL concentration means 0.5 mL gives you 2.5 mg. The dose is what counts.

Can I step up faster?+

Your provider sets your schedule. Stepping up too fast is how people end up miserable. The four week step is tested, safe, and lets your body adjust.

What if I feel side effects?+

Stay at your current dose another month. Your body can catch up. If side effects are making life hard, message your care team through the portal. They respond same day.

How do I store my vial?+

Keep it in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees. Do not freeze it. Once you start using a vial, it is good for 28 days in the fridge.

What if I accidentally inject too much?+

Call your provider right away. Watch for nausea, vomiting, low blood sugar. Do not wait. Start your provider visit at /start and get your tirzepatide prescription today.
